How Does the Solisten Program Work?

The Solisten Sound Training Program is a portable program that can be taken in your home or office. You begin with an Initial Assessment (IA) and consultation with Len Young who is a Registered and Certified Tomatis Consultant (RCTC). The IA takes about 1 ½ hours. Dr. Young individualizes your listening program to address your specific concerns and goals, writes your program onto a computerized card for easy use, and provides you with the equipment, instructions, and additional processes to enhance your experience. You then run your program in the agreed and specified time provided.

You, or your child, listen two hours per day, fitting it into your daily schedule at the most convenient times. Listeners can move around while listening because the equipment employs a long cord on the headphones. In fact, most listeners enjoy their listening time as they can draw, paint, play games, work puzzles, have conversations, or cook during their program.

After the Initial Assessment (IA), the minimal program is 60 hours of listening over several months. The IA and program are described in more detail below.

Initial Assessment

  • Takes about an hour and a half
  • Includes a series of tests
  • Entails a detailed personal history
  • Includes a discussion of your current listening levels and a related consultation

Minimal program of 60 hours of listening:

  • A 15-day listening period, two hours each day
  • A break of 3-4 weeks
  • A second 15-day listening period, two hours each day or second and third 8-day listening periods of two hours each day, depending on equipment availability
  • The listening sessions include passive and active phases, which support voice clarity and ear training
  • You listen to classical music with a full range of sound, primarily Mozart and Gregorian Chant—music that possesses stimulating overtones and develops thinking and rhythm abilities thereby improving how you listen, focus, think, remember, learn, and communicate.

Additional Listening

  • Clients with greater needs may opt for additional listening hours beyond the 60 hour program

Continuing Changes

  • Once the program is completed, your ears and body continue to change over the next year and a half

Electronic Ear (EE)

The Electronic Ear is the patented electronic device developed by Dr. Alfred A. Tomatis to provide the Tomatis Method. With classical music, mainly Mozart, and Gregorian chant, the Electronic Ear focuses attention to a client’s weak sounds through a filtering mechanism that stimulates the ear to perceive those sounds. The EE gates sound between the left and right ears to strengthen right ear dominance, and it works on balance. (Learn more www.tomatis-group.com) Solisten is the patented mini-Electronic Ear.
